Introduction

It’s quite easy to translate Arkana - FTS into your own language. You just need to copy and then edit a bunch of files. There are three main translation categories: translate the GUI, translate the messages and translate the gamepage.

First of all, you have to think of the name of your language. For our example, we take the language “1337talk”.

Translate the GUI

The GUI is all that the user sees directly, that is all windows, buttons, tool tips and so on.

To translate the GUI, you should move into the directory called:

Data/Graphics/ui/layouts

There you will find a lot of files, don’t be afraid. Every file represents one GUI dialog in one language. To fully translate the GUI, copy all files that end with “.english.layout” and name them “.yourlanguage.layout”, for our example that would be “.1337talk.layout”.

Note: you may also just copy and rename one file, translate it and then carry on, as every file that does not exist in your language gets loaded in English by default.

Now, you may edit all these files and translate any text that you may find there, especially text contained within

<Property Name="Text">Here's the text you may edit.</Property>

tags as above.

You may also edit more, but for this, you should first learn a bit about CEGUI.

And never change the widget’s type or name !! That is, never change lines like this one:

<Window Type="ArkanaLook/StaticText" Name="dlg_confirm/Text">

You may change the sizes of widgets if the text does not fit in.

If you forget to translate a file (or to copy and rename it), the dialog will be shown in English.

Translate the messages

The messages are things the user won’t see immediately. Some of the messages are only shown if there is an error, some are always shown. Also, some are specially translated GUI texts.

To translate all these, go into the directory called:

Data/Languages

Then, copy the directory called “English” and rename it into the name of your language. For our example that would be renamed into “1337talk”. Go into that directory and open the files.

Every file contains a lot of lines that are built up like this:

Blabla = "BlaBla"

These are all messages. The left part should NEVER be changed, it is the name of the message (just as you have your own name). The right part is the message itself, this is what you should translate.

Please note that if you want to use the " sign in your translation, it must be preceded by a backslash, thus you need to write:

\"

That’s all there is to know.

Translate the gamepage

For this, there is currently no easy way to translate it, but we’re (mooshie is) working on that part.
